August Gurin-Hirschoff has been a WRL helpline volunteer since October 2023. Growing up in the woods of Northern Virginia, August joined the team after college to stay connected to local wildlife. Their most memorable shift involved a rare close-up encounter with a falcon perched outside a caller’s third-story office window in June 2025.
Currently pursuing a master’s in library science while working at a public library, August also petsits and cares for a rescue cat named Murphy. When not working or volunteering, August enjoys reading, gaming, and cheering for the Washington Spirit in the NWSL.
