Emily Henderson has been volunteering with WRL as a wildlife transporter since February 2024, transporting all types of animals from initial shelter and veterinarians’ offices to wildlife rehabilitators, and at the request of rehabilitators, occasionally releasing fully rehabbed animals back to the wild. When she’s not transporting animals, Emily spends time in Washington, D.C., working as a communication specialist.
Growing up in rural Pennsylvania, Emily developed a deep respect for local wildlife that intensified with moves across the U.S., leading her to give back through shelter volunteering, awareness events, and now transporting her furry, feathered, or scaled passengers as quickly and comfortably as possible. Her most memorable passengers include an opossum determined to escape her crate before playing dead in the backseat, a tiger cub-sounding turkey vulture, a rat snake that only relaxed after finding his favorite classical radio station, and a highly contented snapping turtle reluctant to leave his box for freedom.
Emily spends her free time ushering for theater companies, aiding local seniors and their caregivers, enjoying downtown brunch spots with friends, or relaxing with her cat, Brynner.
Wildlife Rescue League offers thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. The spotlight will feature exceptional individuals whose diverse skills and unwavering commitment exemplify the spirit of WRL.
Volunteer Spotlight is brought to you by Andres Soria. Andres joined WRL’s Marketing Committee in 2022 and is one of our go-to photographers. In his time off, he enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, and biking.
