Volunteering has been part of her life since at least 2013, when she helped run adoption events as a youth volunteer with Henrico Humane Society, and joining WRL felt like a natural progression of her lifelong love of animals and desire to help the community. Her first transport as a WRL volunteer was taking a fox out to rehabilitator Karen Lamb, an experience that made her realize she absolutely loves doing long transports. You’ll often find her on her way to Powhatan, taking supplies to rehabilitator Holly Nielson. She’s also been fortunate to do several turtle releases, finding it extremely cool to watch those little guys recognize they’re back where they belong.
Currently, she is working at a pet supply store, but Katie has also worked at numerous veterinary hospitals and even at the Fairfax County animal shelter. When she’s not volunteering, she likes to wind down with a good jigsaw puzzle.
Wildlife Rescue League offers thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. The spotlight will feature exceptional individuals whose diverse skills and unwavering commitment exemplify the spirit of WRL.
Volunteer Spotlight is brought to you by Andres Soria. Andres joined WRL’s Marketing Committee in 2022 and is one of our go-to photographers. In his time off, he enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, and biking.
