Volunteer Spotlight – Percy Zimering

Percy Zimering has been a helpline volunteer with WRL for three years, drawn to the organization after studying conservation in college. His passion for wildlife conservation took on a personal meaning when he rescued an injured bird while on a walk with nothing to contain it. He now has a deeper appreciation for the creative containers, like purses and takeout boxes, that helpline callers use. It was both grounding and rewarding to meet wildlife rehabilitator Dinah Flynn and experience firsthand the situations he helps callers navigate.

Beyond the helpline, Percy recently worked on a research project with the Department of Wildlife Resources studying wildlife crossings, collecting field and interview data to help reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions.

In his free time, he creates nature-inspired art, a hobby that reflects the same love of the natural world that brought him to WRL.

Wildlife Rescue League offers thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. The spotlight will feature exceptional individuals whose diverse skills and unwavering commitment exemplify the spirit of WRL.

Volunteer Spotlight is brought to you by Andres Soria. Andres joined WRL’s Marketing Committee in 2022 and is one of our go-to photographers. In his time off, he enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, and biking.
