If You Are Located Outside of Northern Virginia

If you are located outside of Northern Virginia, refer to the list of other organizations which can provide assistance. No matter where you are, good sources of help include your local animal shelters, humane society, or vets.

Finding Help for Native Wildlife

Immediate assistance for sick, injured, or orphaned wildlife is essential. Wild animals require specialized medical care and diets. Even a few hours can mean the difference between life and death, or the ability to be returned to the wild.

Do not attempt to care for a wild animal yourself.

The Wildlife Helpline

If you find wildlife you believe is in need of human assistance, call the WRL Wildlife Helpline at (703) 440-0800. A volunteer will return your call and give you instructions on how to proceed.

The helpline operates from 9:00 AM EST to 5:00 PM EST every day of the year. If you call after hours, your call will be returned after 9 AM the following day.
