Volunteer Spotlight – Robin Liten-Tejada

Robin Liten-Tejada joined WRL in March 2025 as a transporter, but her journey to the role began well before that. After 38 years as a public-school teacher of English Learners, Robin retired and was ready for a new chapter outside, working in nature with wildlife. She researched her options while still in the classroom, reading the WRL website during planning periods until she decided that transporting was the right fit. She even bought a car in December 2024 specifically suited for the job before signing up.

Her very first transport couldn’t have been a better welcome to WRL. As an avid birder with a love of raptors, she got to release a barred owl, and she was thrilled. A self-described snake lover, Robin is still patiently waiting for her first snake transport, but she’s embraced the full variety of animals WRL helps along the way.

She puts it best herself: sometimes you wonder why you’re driving so far in traffic to save a baby squirrel or a mouse, but in a time of climate change and habitat destruction, these are lives worth saving, and that’s deeply rewarding.

Wildlife Rescue League offers thanks to the dedicated volunteers who give their time, energy, and hearts to helping injured and orphaned wildlife. The spotlight will feature exceptional individuals whose diverse skills and unwavering commitment exemplify the spirit of WRL.

Volunteer Spotlight is brought to you by Andres Soria. Andres joined WRL’s Marketing Committee in 2022 and is one of our go-to photographers. In his time off, he enjoys wildlife photography, hiking, and biking.
